About Lenore De Pree

Lenore De Pree has been a writer and a painter all her life, always reaching out to respond to the beauty and pain of the world in either words or color forms. Born in a Dutch community in Chicago, raised in the Appalachian mountains of Kentucky where her parents took in 90 homeless children, and living in the Far East and Middle East with husband Gordon and their four children, Lenore has absorbed many rich influences into her work.

Our New Adventure

Welcome to the new BLOG section of our lenoredepreebooks.com website. If you have been one of our face book friends, we doubly welcome you to use this new blog for news and updates on 47 Houses on the Long Journey Home, and the art discovered on that journey. As of May 1, we (Gordon and Lenore De Pree) finished our 24 years in the mountains of North Carolina, packed up our “Home”, and moved to Holland, Michigan. We have moved into Baker Lofts, a 110 loft apartment condo which formerly produced Baker furniture, and are busy exploring the city of Holland. We take with us many loving memories of Ashe county, NC, and will incorporate the energy and inspiration we received there into creating a new life of writing and painting in this beautiful Lake Michigan city. New scenes and new contacts are off to a wonderful start. Less than a month after “landing” here, we had joined the Holland Arts Council, and a complete show of our oil paintings was set up downtown. How’s that for a welcome?

The Art of Lenore De Pree Coming to Lievense Gallery

The Vibrant Oil Paintings of Lenore De Pree
July 3 – September 6
Lievense Gallery
Years of traveling and living in the Middle and Far East, Lenore De Pree developed a unique style. Persian Poetry illustrations – the use of space, color vibrations, absence of perspective and shadow – and the Post-Impressionists – Gaugin, Van Gogh, Matisse – served as her guides. With these influence, she evolved a style of Post-Modern Contemporary art, cognizant of forms but not restricted to them, and began to paint with a new vision.
¬†After a life on the other side of the world, De Pree is using her style to take a close look at Holland Michigan: the streets, the beaches, the people. She’s inspired to create new art in this area – contemporary, but not abstract, celebrating life and people and roots in a joyous and powerful art form.
